About Small size power module suppliers

Many open frame power supplies now offer two power ratings, one with convection or conduction cooling and one where external forced air is applied.  As some applications require low acoustic noise levels, for example in healthcare where patient comfort is important, fan-less cooling is preferred.  This can be achieved through operating a power supply at its convection rating, and if it is also capable of conduction cooling, a combination of both.

If the output load significantly varies with time it may be possible to utilize a power supply with a peak power rating.  This allows a lower power product to be selected, saving cost and reducing its size, as the convection cooled peak power rating is often the same as the forced air continuous rating.

For example, modern hospital beds are fitted with electric motors that can adjust the angle of the bed to allow the patient to sit upright, or raise the lower portion to elevate the legs. These motors may only operate for short periods of time. The same will apply to dental chairs, thermal warmers for babies, and incubators.

2023-4-27

Industrial AC-DC converters play an essential role in power electronics as they convert alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). These converters are widely used in various applications such as power supplies for computers, telecommunication equipment, and other electronic devices. The development of industrial AC-DC converters aims to ensure efficient power conversion, reliability, and safety. One of the primary challenges in designing industrial AC-DC converters is to ensure high efficiency. Efficiency refers to the ratio between the output power and the input power. The efficiency of AC-DC converters is critical as it affects the power loss and heat generation within the system. High-efficiency converters can reduce energy consumption and operating costs. To improve efficiency, designers use advanced techniques such as soft switching, resonant switching, and power factor correction. Soft switching reduces switching losses by reducing the rate of change of current and voltage. Resonant switching uses resonant circuits to reduce switching losses and improve efficiency. Power factor correction techniques improve the power factor, which is the ratio between the real power and the apparent power, leading to more efficient power conversion. In addition to efficiency, reliability is also an essential factor in the design of industrial AC-DC converters. Reliability refers to the ability...

AC-DC Converter: Converting Alternating Current to Direct Current

2023-4-18

An AC-DC converter, also known as a rectifier, is a device that converts alternating current (AC) to direct current (DC). This is necessary because many electronic devices, such as computers and televisions, require DC to function properly. AC-DC converters are used in a variety of applications, from household appliances to industrial machinery. The process of converting AC to DC involves several steps. First, the AC voltage is rectified, or converted to a pulsating DC voltage. This pulsating DC voltage is then filtered to remove any remaining AC components, resulting in a pure DC voltage. The resulting DC voltage can be used to power a wide range of electronic devices. There are several different types of AC-DC converters, each with its own advantages and disadvantages. One common type is the half-wave rectifier, which uses a single diode to rectify the AC voltage. This type of rectifier is simple and inexpensive, but it only allows half of the AC waveform to pass through, resulting in a low average DC voltage. Another type of AC-DC converter is the full-wave rectifier, which uses four diodes to rectify the AC voltage. This type of rectifier allows the full AC waveform to pass through, resulting in...

How to Differentiate Between AC and DC Power Supply

2023-4-21

When it comes to electrical power supply, there are two main types: AC and DC. AC stands for alternating current while DC stands for direct current. The main difference between the two is in the direction that the current flows. While AC flows in a back-and-forth motion, DC flows in only one direction. In this article, we will explore the various ways in which AC and DC power supply can be differentiated. 1. Source of the power supply The first way to differentiate between AC and DC power supply is by looking at the source. AC power supply is usually produced by generators, which use a rotating magnetic field to produce a voltage that alternates in direction. On the other hand, DC power supply is usually produced by batteries, fuel cells, or rectifiers, which convert AC to DC. 2. Voltage and frequency Another way to differentiate between AC and DC power supply is by looking at the voltage and frequency. AC voltage varies in magnitude and direction, while DC voltage remains constant in magnitude and direction. Additionally, AC power supply has a frequency, which is the number of times the voltage alternates per second. In the United States, the standard...
Bidirectional DC DC Converter: An Innovative Solution for Efficient Power Transfer

2023-6-18

In today's world, efficient power transfer is a critical aspect that plays a significant role in the development of various industries, including automotive, renewable energy, and telecommunications. The traditional DC DC converter is widely used for power transfer, but it has limitations in bidirectional power transfer. To overcome these limitations, the bidirectional DC DC converter has been introduced, which is an innovative solution for efficient power transfer. What is a Bidirectional DC DC Converter? A bidirectional DC DC converter is a power electronic device that can transfer power bidirectionally between two DC sources. It can convert the input voltage from one DC source to another DC source with a different voltage level. The main advantage of this converter is its ability to transfer power bidirectionally, which means that it can transfer power from the battery to the load and vice versa. The bidirectional DC DC converter consists of two power electronic switches, such as MOSFETs or IGBTs, that are used to control the power flow. The converter can operate in two modes: buck and boost. In the buck mode, the output voltage is lower than the input voltage, and in the boost mode, the output voltage is higher than the...
